"I'm Frustrated [about] getting hit too much."

That's the quote that's being passed around that Russell Wilson said regarding his record high number of sacks in his first nine seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.  The quote has been blown out of proportion and even longer quotes have been taken from two different interviews in order to make it sound like something worse is going on within the Seahawks organization than what actually is.  Whether Wilson gets traded or not, the Seahawks will survive.  Don't get me wrong, @DangeRuss is a stand up guy and a great player too.  Our hope can never be in one person, no matter how great they are.

This blog isn't about sports, however, it's about parenting teens.  I can tend to put my hope in one person like Russell Wilson, or a political figure, or a relationship.  Teens can do the same or even idolize a pop star.  For thousands of years, millions of people have also put their hope in one person.  That person is Abraham.  People of several different faiths have hoped that they are the descendants of Abraham.  That's exceedingly important because God gave him a promise:

The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God (Genesis 17:8).

and,

'...through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me' (Genesis 22:18).

Those are some big promises with huge implications.  The offspring is Jesus.  Which leads me to my whole point of this week's blog.  Jesus is the only one in whom we can truly have hope.  With so many "influencers" it can be hard to continually point our teens to Jesus.  I think this can best be done by training our young people, first, to look into what they read or hear to see if it is true or not.  Second. we should train them to look into what a person truly stands for.  And if they stand for something, do they back it up in their personal life.  The only one we will ever find that did this 100% of the time is...Jesus.
